Strategic leadership is key to realise your aspirations
Access to adequate housing is a basic human right. The provision of safe, suitable, secure, affordable housing for whanau improves physical and mental health and provides a stable base that is linked to better outcomes for whanau and community.
The whanau of Horaparaikete Ahu Whenua Trust decided in 2000 that it was now or never, to reconnect to their whenua and each other on ancestral land situated at the base of the Papamoa Hills. A Papakainga vision was born to build whanau homes and a whare whakaruruhau or whanau Marae named after mareikura, Horaparaikete.
Fast forward to today the papakainga residents are well and truly ensconced and the whanau whare is utilised often by whanau and the community.
A strategic vision that started in 2000, was the fire starter that rekindled this whanau's ahi kaa. Not for the meek, this was a decade long journey for the whanau that started without a land administration Trust and little resource. Now a thriving Papakainga of 8 homes and a large Whanau marae.
